Yumi Wilson is a San Francisco–based professor, coach, and former journalist who helps people navigate personal and professional transitions with clarity, accountability, and purpose. A tenured faculty member at San Francisco State University, Yumi has taught journalism and digital media for over 20 years, blending practical skills with critical insight to develop the next generation of media professionals.
Before entering higher education, Yumi spent more than a decade as a reporter and editor for The San Francisco Chronicle and The Associated Press. She later joined LinkedIn, where she led corporate communications and trained journalists and communicators around the world on personal branding, digital storytelling, and platform strategy.
Today, Yumi combines her journalism roots with coaching tools and AI literacy to help professionals embrace change without losing their voice. She hosts the podcast A Journalist’s Guide to AI, where she explores the intersection of storytelling, technology, and ethics through conversations with media innovators and changemakers.
